Trauma Informed Counseling
What is Trauma
At Graceful Healing Counseling, we understand that trauma, from a central nervous system perspective, can arise from experiences that are overwhelming (too much, too long), insufficient (too little, too long), or occur too early in development. We recognize that these experiences shape our nervous system, leading to survival responses that may no longer serve us. Our approach focuses on helping individuals learn new ways of engaging with the world and their bodies, fostering a greater sense of safety and well-being

EMDR
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based psychotherapy approach that helps individuals reduce the emotional impact of distressing memories and reprocess negative beliefs associated with traumatic experiences.
During EMDR therapy, you'll engage in a series of guided exercises that stimulate your brain while you recall and process traumatic material. This includes addressing emotions, beliefs, images, and bodily sensations related to the trauma within the safe and supportive environment of the therapeutic relationship.

Psychsomatic Interventions
At Graceful Healing Counseling, we deeply value the wisdom and power of the body. Psychosomatic therapy interventions are designed to help individuals reconnect with their bodies, cultivate body awareness, and utilize movement as a tool for healing.
We recognize that many individuals have become disconnected from their bodies due to trauma or other life experiences. We believe that the body holds valuable information about our experiences, including trauma, and that by reconnecting with our bodies, we can access deeper levels of healing and self-awareness.
Psychomotor interventions, such as somatic experiencing, help individuals to safely explore and process bodily sensations, release stored trauma, and cultivate a greater sense of embodiment and well-being.

Trauma and the Brain and Body
At Graceful Healing, we recognize the profound impact that trauma can have on the brain and body. Our approach emphasizes a holistic understanding of your experience, exploring how trauma has affected your nervous system and its impact on your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. We will work collaboratively with you to understand these complex connections and develop a personalized treatment plan that addresses your unique needs and promotes healing on all levels.

DBT
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a comprehensive treatment approach that addresses a wide range of mental health challenges, including emotional dysregulation, self-harm, and interpersonal difficulties.
DBT utilizes a multi-pronged approach, including:
-
Individual Therapy: Personalized sessions to address specific concerns and develop coping strategies.
-
Skills Training Groups: Learn essential DBT skills, including mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotion regulation.
-
Phone Coaching: Provides support and guidance between sessions.
-
Therapist Consultation: Ensures the highest quality of care through ongoing consultation with other DBT therapists.
DBT emphasizes the importance of finding balance between acceptance and change – recognizing and accepting current realities while actively working towards desired goals.
At Graceful Healing Counseling, we offer both full DBT treatment and utilize DBT skills as an adjunct to EMDR therapy. When integrated with EMDR, DBT skills provide valuable tools for managing daily life challenges, allowing individual sessions to focus more deeply on processing traumatic memories.
When implemented as a full treatment, DBT helps individuals cultivate a greater sense of balance and well-being in their daily lives.
